• Shyam saran, indian foreign secretary, reacts strongly to the warnings by david mulford about the future of the indo/us nuclear deal. he stated on thursday that the warning was inappropriate and would not promote good relations between the countries.
• After tony garza, the us ambassador to mexico, claimed that mexican soldiers helped drug smugglers escape texas state police near el paso in texas, luis ernesto derbez, the mexican secretary for foreign affairs, suggested that these people could have been us soldiers wearing uniforms from the mexican military.
• Pervez musharraf, pakistani president, rejects us objections regarding a proposed iran-pakistan india pipeline for natural gas. he stated that "it is in our economic interests." we should be compensated if someone tries to stop us. we are moving ahead at the moment." musharraf reiterates his condemnation for the u.s. strike in pakistan that killed 18 people, including children and women.
• Sarah ludford (liberal democrat mep for london), who is leading a european parliament inquiry into the u.s. policy on "extraordinary rendition", suggests that she might invite the vice president of the united states dick cheney or secretary of defense donald rumsfeld, or secretary of state condoleezza rice, to testify.
• The long-running dispute over iran's nuke program has led to david mulford, us ambassador to india, warning india to support the us plan to refer iran before the united nations security council. otherwise, india could be forced to cancel a us-indian nuclear agreement.
• India's foreign ministry called the comments inappropiate and summoned the ambassador to delhi to give an explanation (bbc news).
• China's foreign ministry stated that it opposes the use of sanctions or threats of sanctions to solve problems. they also indicated their support for russian efforts to resolve the issue.

• Interpol issues red alerts against pakistan's ex-prime minister benazir bhuto and asif ali zardari.
• After the muhammad drawings controversy, saudi arabia has recalled their danish envoy and initiated a boycott against danish products.
