The 1972 Chevelle - A Classic American Muscle Car
The Chevrolet Chevelle is a mid-sized automobile which was produced by Chevrolet in three generations for the 1964 through 1977 model years. Part of the General Motors (GM) A-Body platform, the Chevelle was one of Chevrolet's most successful nameplates. Body styles include coupes, sedans, convertibles and station wagons. Super Sport versions were produced through the 1973 model year, and began again in 1996 for the 1997 model year.
The third-generation Chevelle was introduced in 1968. A new body style was introduced for the1968 model year that featured sweeping rear quarter panels and a slightly longer wheelbase which gave the car a more formal look without sacrificing any of its athleticism. The SS package returned for 1968 with all of its previous glory including the powerful big block engines and special badging.

1972 Chevelle Engine
The 1972 Chevelle saw very few changes from the 1971 model year. The only real change of note was the introduction of a new grille design which would be used on all Chevelles until 1976 when the car underwent a major redesign.
Under the hood, things were business as usual for the 1972 Chevelle. Consumers could choose from a variety of small block and big block engines ranging from a 305ci V8 all the way up to a 454ci V8.
For those who wanted something a little different, Chevrolet also offered two different versions of their 396ci V8 engine - one rated at 350 horsepower and one rated at 402 horsepower. As always, buyers could choose between a manual transmission or an automatic transmission.
1972 Chevelle Body Styles and optional features
The 1972 Chevelle was available in a wide range of body styles, including a two-door coupe, four-door sedan, and convertible. It came standard with a V8 engine and could be equipped with a variety of optional features, such as power windows and air conditioning. The Chevelle was also available with a number of different trim levels, including the SS (Super Sport) model that featured special badging and upgraded performance equipment.
