  • Manouchehr mottaki, iran's foreign minister, denies that mahmoud ahmadinejad stated that he wanted israel "wiped off the map". he said ahmadinejad was misunderstood.
  • The movement for the emancipation of the niger delta attacks a pipeline and a military homeboat in southern nigeria. this reduces crude oil production by around twenty percent. due to concerns about supply, international oil prices have risen due to the recent violence.
  • After pleading guilty during 1989 to denigrating the holocaust, david irving, a british holocaust denier, was sentenced to three years imprisonment by an austrian court. irving was arrested last november. a suspended sentence was expected. irving will appeal the sentence.
  • Today, russian and iranian negotiators began talks on a plan to have the former enrichuranium for iran. this is part of international efforts to discourage iran from its own enrichment.
  • Brokeback mountain, a western romance, wins the best film and best director awards at the bafta awards.
  • According to an audiotape posted monday to a militant website, osama bin laden promises never to be captured alive.
