  • 01 Jun 2014 Islamist insurgency: At least 40 people were killed in a bombing that took place at a football match in Mubi, northeastern Nigeria. (AFP via Global Post). Two priests from Italy and a nun from Canada were kidnapped by Boko Haram gunmen. They have since been released.
  • 02 Jun 2014 The 2014 pro-Russian conflict between Ukraine and Russia: An extensive skirmish takes place in eastern Ukraine when pro­Russian separatists launch an attack on a border control center near Luhansk. Five militants are killed, eight more are injured and seven Ukrainian border guards are also wounded.
  • 03 Jun 2014 2014 pro-Russian unrest Ukraine: Heavy fighting takes place between the Ukrainian military, and pro-Russian militants in and around Sloviansk, an eastern city held by rebels.
  • 04 Jun 2014 2014 pro-Russian conflict Ukraine: Separatists seize two Ukrainian Military bases in Luhansk Oblast, as fighting continues close to rebel-held Sloviansk.
  • 05 Jun 2014 Islamist insurgency: A group of suspected Boko Haram militants attack a village near Maiduguri in northern Nigeria, killing approximately 45 people.
  • 06 Jun 2014 Afghanistan War (2001-present). Abdullah Abdullah of National Coalition of Afghanistan, who was a frontrunner for the Afghan presidential election, survived a bombing attempt.
  • 07 Jun 2014 Iraqi insurgency after the U.S. withdrawal: The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant gunmen attacked the University of Anbar campus, killing three guards and taking dozens of students hostage. They then withdrew. (Sky News, AP) The bodies of 21 police officers who were abducted by militants a day earlier have been found in Mosul, Iraq. After a string of bombings in Baghdad, at least 52 people have been killed.

  • 09 Jun 2014 Attack on 2014 Jinnah International Airport: Karachi's Jinnah International Airport was attacked yesterday, killing 21 people. (Sky News Australia). The attack was claimed by the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan.
  • 10 Jun 2014 In response to the attack on Karachi's Jinnah International Airport, the Pakistan Air Force launched bombing raids against Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan positions within the Tirah area.
  • 11 Jun 2014 Iraqi Civil War (2014-2017: 2014 Mosul offensive. Insurgents are continuing their offensive and have taken control of Tikrit. This is the second provincial capital to be overthrown in the same period. As many as 500,000 Mosul residents flee fighting and head east to Kurdish-controlled territory. Meanwhile, insurgents storm Turkey's Embassy and capture 48 Turks, including the Consul General.

This happened one day after a temporary ceasefire had been declared.

  • 26 Jun 2014 2014 Northern Iraq offensive: Nouri al Maliki, the Prime Minister of Iraq, confirms that the Syrian Air Force attacked Islamic State in Iraq and Levant positions in Iraq earlier this week. (BBC). Insurgents seize Mansouriyat al-Jabal. It is located 110km northeast from Baghdad and contains four natural gas fields. (Reuters) Iraqi forces launch an aerial assault on Tikrit rebel-held, with at least one helicopter crashing.
