  • Rosemary West is sentenced to life for killing ten women and girls, including her own daughter and stepdaughter, after the jury returns a guilty verdict at Winchester Crown Court. The trial judge recommends that she should never be released from prison, making her only the second woman in British legal history to be subjected to a whole life tariff.
  • Buena Vista Pictures releases the Walt Disney Pictures - Pixar computer animated feature film Toy Story to theaters in the USA. This is the first feature film completely animated by computers. The film was created using 800,000 hours of computing time on 300 Sun Microsystems microprocessors.
  • Toy Story is released as the first feature-length film created completely using computer-generated imagery.
