  • Conflict in iraq: u.s. officials in fallujah claim that marines are "cleaning out" insurgents as artillery, airstrikes and artillery continue. baiji: a suicide car bomb inflicts 15 iraqis, wounding 22. three turkish truck drivers are killed and ambushed in mosul by u.s. forces. nine iraqis are killed in ramadi and fifteen others are wounded by u.s. forces fighting insurgents.
  • Three home-made explosives are set off in three buenos aires bank branches in argentina. one security guard was killed and one officer was injured.
  • Kmart buys sears in an agreement worth. the combination of resources from both companies creates a company worth /year that includes close to 3500 stores.
  • The british house of lords approves a bill that allows same-sex couples to form civil partnerships. this is the last legislative hurdle to the bill. it is expected that the bill will receive royal assent in the latter part of the week.
