  • 01 Dec 2014 Iraqi insurgency. Haidar al-Abadi, the Prime Minister of Iraq, promises to crack down on corruption. An audit revealed that there were 50,000 ghost soldiers within the Army. (AFP via ABC News Australia). The Iraq Prime Minister dismisses 24 Interior Ministry officials, while the Islamic State kills at most 15 police officers close to the border with Syria.
  • 02 Dec 2014 War in Somalia: According to the Red Cross, at least 36 people could have been killed in an attack on Mandera County, northeastern Kenya. Al-Shabaab militants may be to blame. (Bloomberg via Business Week).
  • 03 Dec 2014 Somali Civil War: Six people are killed when a suicide bomber targets a United Nations convoy close to Aden Adde International Airport.
  • 04 Dec 2014 2014 Grozny clashes - Three state police officers are killed at a traffic circle by Islamic insurgents. They then take over a school and "press house" in Grozny. Gun battles end with 10 insurgents being killed and ten state forces dying.
  • 05 Dec 2014 Insurgency in Kashmir: A terrorist attack on a military camp near Uri leaves 11 Indian soldiers and police officers dead. In that attack, eight militants and two civilians were killed.
  • 06 Dec 2014 Hostage rescue operation in Yemen 2014: A South African civilian and an American civilian were killed in an attempt by U.S. Navy Seals to rescue them. They were held hostage in the Arabian Peninsula by al-Qaeda.
  • 07 Dec 2014 Syrian Civil War: According to Russian and Syrian sources, the Israeli Air Force bombed two bases of the Syrian Armed Forces near Damascus as well as Dimas.

  • 11 Dec 2014 Taliban insurgency: At least six soldiers of the Afghan National Army are killed by a suicide bomber in Tangi Tarakhil, on the outskirts Kabul. (AFP via France 24,) A suicide bomber attacked a cultural center that was staging a play about terrorist attacks. One German national was killed and 16 others were injured. (Reuters/AFP via ABC News Australia: The Obama Administration orders closing the Bagram Airfield, the last US-run Afghan detention facility.
  • 12 Dec 2014 Sony Pictures Entertainment hack: Sony Pictures Entertainment shuts down production of several sets due to computer network problems regarding employee pay disbursement. This follows a huge computer hack.
  • 13 Dec 2014 Taliban insurgency. Gunmen assassinate Atiqullah Rohoofi, head of the Secretariat of Afghanistan's Supreme Court, in the outskirts of Kabul. (AP) Twenty-one people are killed in terrorist attacks in Afghanistan, including two American soldiers.
  • 14 Dec 2014 Syrian Civil War: 34 rebels were killed and three loyalist fighters were captured in a battle between Bashar Al-Assad loyalist forces, and Islamist rebels at Aleppo Governorate.
  • 15 Dec 2014 At least 11 people are killed in a fire at a karaoke venue in China's Henan Province.
  • 16 Dec 2014 War in North-West Pakistan: 2014 Peshawar school massacre: Taliban gunmen stormed one of the military-run Army Public Schools of Peshawar in Pakistan, killing at most 141 people, including 132 children, and nine employees. Most of the five hundred students were evacuated. All six gunmen are killed in the shooting.
  • 17 Dec 2014 After the Taliban's attack on Peshawar school on Tuesday, which killed 141 people including 132 children, the Pakistani moratorium on death penalty in terror-related cases is lifted.
  • 18 Dec 2014 Gumsuri kidnapping news: After survivors reach Maiduguri, it is reported that Boko Haram militants attacked the remote village Gumsuri in northwestern Nigeria on December 14, killing at most 33 and kidnapping around 200.

  • 31 Dec 2014 Terrorism in Yemen: At least 26 people are killed in a suicide bombing at Ibb (Yemen).
  • 03 Dec 2014 The Japanese space agency, JAXA, launches the space explorer Hayabusa2 from the Tanegashima Space Center on a six-year round trip mission to an asteroid to collect rock samples.
