  • In Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, a bomb explodes under a car causing injury but no deaths.
  • Around 88 people were killed and 200 others injured by a series car bombs that struck the Egyptian resort Sharm el-Sheikh around 0100 (22200 UTC Friday).
  • Berlin, Germany: A small plane crashes close to the Reichstag (and the Federal Chancellor's Office), killing the pilot. Suicide is suspected.
  • Police in Dubai are on high alert for the Junaid Miandad-Mahrukh Ibrahim wedding. Junaid is the son Javed Miandad, a former Pakistani cricket captain. Mahrukh is the child of India's most wanted criminal boss, Dawood Ibrahim.
  • Microsoft has officially announced that the codenamed "Windows Longhorn", will now be called "Windows Vista". On August 3, the first beta test will go live.
