  • Near-Earth Asteroid 2004 FH achieved the second closest approach to an asteroid ever recorded. It passed Earth's surface at 43,000 km at 22:08 UTC.
  • Federal officials announced that the Love Canal cleanup has been completed. According to the EPA, it should be removed from the Superfund List. Lois Gibbs, an environmental activist, said that the Bush administration tried to divert criticism from a March 11 Senate vote not to reauthorize an expired user fee for corporations to pay for environmental cleanup.
  • US Supreme Court Associate Justice Antonin Scalia refused to recuse from a case involving his friend Dick Cheney. The case concerns whether the White House should release information about private meetings of Cheney’s energy task force. He stated that duck hunting and fishing "were not intimate settings" and that the energy matter was never discussed.
