  • South African authorities have announced that Al-Qaeda militants illegally obtained a large amount of South African passports. This allowed them to travel to many African countries as well as Britain without visas. The passports were allegedly obtained from criminal syndicates within the passport office.
  • The Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court has ordered the release of investigative files relating to the 1972 murder of Danny Croteau, a 13-year-old altar boy. Richard Lavigne is the sole suspect in this case. He was a child molestation-convicted priest who has been defrocked.
  • The lower French court invalidated the same-sex marriage of Bertrand Charpentier and Stephane Chapin. It stated that the Civil Code doesn't allow such-sex unions, and that allowing them was for the legislature. They plan to appeal against the court's decision, including to the European Court of Human Rights. Noel Mamere, a left-wing Greens Party mayor, was suspended for one month by national executive.
  • Iran is said to have broken the seals on uranium centrifuges that were placed by the International Atomic Energy Agency, and then resumed their construction.
  • Guerilla mortar fire directed at Baghdad's Green Zone kills one Iraqi garbage collector and wounds another. It also injures 15 U.S. soldiers.
