  • 02 Nov 2001 Microsoft, the US Department of Justice, and nine US States reach an agreement in their antitrust case. Microsoft will license Windows uniformly and can't make exclusive agreements that force companies to stop using certain software products.

  • 06 Nov 2001 Twentieth Century Fox's antiterrorist drama series ''24'' premieres.
  • 11 Nov 2001 Journalists Johanne Sutton, Pierre Billaud and Volker Handloik were killed in Afghanistan in an attack on their convoy.
  • 12 Nov 2001 American Airlines Flight 587, an Airbus A300 on route to the Dominican Republic from New York City, crashed shortly after takeoff at John F. Kennedy International Airport. It killed all 260 passengers on board as well as five crew members.
  • 13 Nov 2001 The first such act since World War II was signed by President George W. Bush. It allows military tribunals to be established against foreigners suspected of being connected to terrorist acts or planning acts against the United States.
  • 15 Nov 2001 Microsoft launches the Xbox video gaming system in North America. The price is US$299. The system comes with four controller ports and one controller. It has a 733 MHz Intel main CPU, 250 MHz NVidia XGP graphic processor, 64 MB RAM and 3D audio support. There is also an Ethernet port. Dual-layer DVD-ROM discs can store up to 9 GB of data. It can also play DVD movies. In the first seven days, 500,000 units were sold; 1.5 million units in the first month.
