  • Charles Duelfer, the head of the Iraq Survey Group, announces before the US Senate Armed Services Committee that the group did not find any evidence that Saddam Hussein's Iraq had produced weapons of mass destruction after 1991 when UN sanctions were implemented. This is directly contrary to the main argument that George W. Bush used for his 2003 invasion of Iraq.
  • An archaeologist team from Japan and Mongolia has announced that they have discovered the 13th-century palace and tomb of Genghis Khan at a location about 150 miles east Ulan Bator in Mongolia.
  • Conflict in Iraq: A suicide car bomb injures 16 people and kills 4 others outside of an Iraqi National Guard recruitment center in Anah. In Mosul, a roadside bomb also kills a civilian, injures four Basra policemen, and kills a Kurdish tribal leader with his companion.
  • Canada's same-sex marriage: Three days of hearings by the Supreme Court of Canada on the federal government's referral of a bill to legalize gay marriage are underway. The court will hear arguments from both sides of the debate and review the constitutionality of the bill. It is unlikely that a ruling will be made for several months.
  • The HMCS Chicoutimi, a British Royal Navy rescue ship, is reached by the British Royal Navy. It was stranded off the Irish coast after an electrical fire enroute to Halifax yesterday. One crewman died after being airlifted by helicopter to a hospital because of heavy seas.
  • The European Commission recommends talks with Turkey to allow it to join the European Union.
