• Two northern Nigerian cities were hit by bombs.
• At least six people are killed when gunmen attacked a Gombe church in northeastern Nigeria.
• Iraqi insurgency. A series of explosions occurred in predominantly Shia Muslim neighborhoods of Baghdad, and in the city Nasiriyah. At least 73 people were killed and 149 others were injured.
• Warren Rodwell, a kidnapped Australian man, claims that his Filipino captors have demanded $2 million as ransom.
• The Pakistan Taliban claims that it has killed 15 members of its security forces it abducted last month.
• A landslide at a Philippine gold mine site in the Compostela Valley Province resulted in the deaths of at least 25 people and many more being missing.
• South Korea indicts an alleged North Korean spy.
• William Hague, Secretary of State of the United Kingdom for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs begins a two-day tour of Myanmar.
• Ehud Olmert, the former Israeli prime minister, is being charged with taking bribes during a property scandal.
