• Ayman al Zawahiri, al-Qaeda's deputy, claims that two London bombers were trained by al-Qaeda via a video posted to a website. He identified two men as having been in training with them: Mohammad Sidique Khan and Shehzad Tanweer.
• Polish Prime Minister Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz has resigned. His party Law and Justice recommended that the post be taken by Jaroslaw Kaczynski (the identical twin brother to President Lech Kaczynski), as its chairman. BBC News
• General Motors' board authorizes Rick Wagoner, Chief Executive Officer, to explore a partnership with Nissan or Renault.
• Japan circulates a United Nations Security Council Draft Resolution, which includes the threat of sanctions against North Korea.
• Dublin Airport's main terminal has been evacuated for the second consecutive week. The incident occurred shortly before 08:00 IST when airport security received a report about a bag found in the Arrivals Area. The Army carried out a controlled explosion of the bag. Although the airport was reopened within two hours, 60 flights and 12,000 passengers were still affected.
• Typhoon Ewiniar is nearing Okinawa's southern islands. The typhoon can travel 160km, 99 miles per hour. The Meteorological Agency of Japan warns about flooding on the island, and the storm that will move across South Korea this weekend.
• Iran's president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, warns of an ampquotexplosionampquot in the Islamic world and it would target Israel and its supporters in the Western world, if Israel doesn't cease its activity in the Gaza Strip. Ahmadinejad stated during a rally held in Tehran that "This (Israel) was a fake regime... It won't survive." The only way forward is for those who created it (the West), to take it away.
• The FBI has announced that a plot by the Holland Tunnel to bomb Lower Manhattan and flood it with water was foiled.
• 43 people were killed in an explosion at the Dongzhai village, Shanxi province, north China.
• Conflict between Israel and Palestine (Operation Summer Rains).
• Three Israeli civilians were injured when a Qassam missile landed on a Sderot basketball court. Despite an Israeli raid in Gaza Strip, more than 15 rockets landed in Israeli towns Friday. (Ynet),
• A laboratory in Spain confirmed that Spain had the first case of H5N1 bird influenza. The country has banned the transport of the virus within the 3 km (1.8 mi) zone.
• Yoon Kwangung, South Korea’s defense minister, stated that South Korea is currently developing cruise missile technology. This is allowed under the 2001 South Korea-U.S. Missile Guideline.
• According to South Korea's defense ministry, North Korea may have sent another Taepodong-2 long-range missile to the launch site.
• Avi Dichter, an Israeli minister, suggests that Palestinian prisoners be released in a "goodwill gesture" if Gilad Shalit, the kidnapped soldier, is freed and rocket attacks stop. This suggestion is rejected by Hamas officials.
