  • American Paratroopers Secure Carentan in Normandy During Operation Overlord, American paratroopers of the 101st Airborne Division successfully secured the strategic town of Carentan in Normandy, France, a critical moment in the Allied invasion of Nazi-occupied Europe.
  • First V-1 Flying Bomb Attack on Britain Nazi Germany launched its first V-1 flying bomb assault against Britain during the night. From 55 launch sites, seven were operational, launching a total of ten flying bombs. Three reached England, with one successfully destroying a railway bridge, marking the beginning of the terror bombing campaign.
  • Roosevelt's Final Fireside Chat U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt delivered his 30th and final Fireside Chat, addressing the nation during a critical period of World War II, providing leadership and reassurance to the American people.
